After looking at houses for about the past year in a housing market with the mentality of eBay, we finally bought a house. It took all my cunning (and Craig’s List) to find one that wasn’t flooded with offers that met my need for a yard and his need for a plus-sized garage. No one has lived in the house as a house for at least 10 years – it was owned and used by a church. Sunday services were held in the workshop, finished with carpeting and heat/AC, and Sunday school and child-care happened in the house. The result is a house that is structurally intact, but lacking in many of the things that make a house a home.
I’ll be starting some blogs on the updates and upgrades we make as a part of project “Beacon House” while Mark, Mika, Akiko, Sumasaki, and I settle in. Roll up your sleeves, there’s a lot to get done!
