A Quilt for the Wounded Warrior Project

Check out this Kickstarter project: to create a red, white, and blue quilt for a lap blanket. The finished quilt will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Quilters have begun an unofficial program of making quilts for soldiers injured in the war. The quilts are shipped to combat hospitals and given to soldiers in Intensive Care Units. These troops are often sent home in minimally heated cargo planes, so the quilts are functional for warmth in addition to showing that we care and thank them for their sacrifices.

I will finish a patriotic quilt in red, white, and blue and give it to the Wounded Warrior Project.  Per Kickstarter’s rules, you are not funding a charity organization, just me, but when the quilt is complete, it will be taken to my local Wounded Warrior chapter to make sure it goes to a service member who needs it.

Requirements:

  • Size is 4 ft x 6 ft 6 in, or 48″ by 78″ (the size of stretchers and gurneys)
  • All cotton; no synthetics, including the batting (80/20 batting is OK)
  • Red/white/blue or appropriate patriotic theme (no cartoon characters)

Materials Needed:

  • Batting
  • Backing
  • Bias Tape
  • Ribbon
  • Sewing Machine Oil
  • Embroidery Thread
